One of the necessities when starting training with firearms is to work in safety.
A safe alternative to using the real firearm to understand the first procedures and start training with firearms and practice a series of simulations and exercises with the use of simulacra of the same size as the real weapons models for being able to safely perform a series of tactical and technical exercises.
In some phases of tactical-operative training with firearms, some beginners sometimes make some mistakes regarding safety.
In the applications to real cases, sector experts can test their technical skills on attacks and disarms such as the knife but with firearms (Pistol, Rifle, etc.).
An aid for these training phases comes from the plastic / rubber simulacra, the so-called “Blue Guns“.
Caution!! I want to emphasize that when we talk about simulations with weapons it is always a question of tactical shooting, therefore training conditions in training or in dynamic shooting to never understand the classic shooting at the shooting range. In addition, I am talking about all those phases that are not covered in sport shooting such as the control of the weapon by an aggressor, of close disarmament from different positions, the use of the weapon in an unconventional way.
If you do a search on the internet you will find that the statistics of fatal accidents occurred during the training carried out by special groups (therefore of highly specialized personnel), especially during the training on the “Force on Force” or man against man.
The “Force on Force” is the highest degree of operational training that is performed using SoftAir, paint, Simunition weapons. Often the weapons are indistinguishable from the real ones or in other cases they are the same real weapons that use special cartridges. Despite the prevention observed in terms of safety and the high degree of specialization of the participants, in recent years, during these training sessions, very similar to the reality, there were about 280 fatal accidents, which occurred due to the incorrect use of real weapons and cartridges.
Nowadays there are whole lines very detailed and accurate of bluegun, “Firearms simulators” with models ranging from the guns of various manufacturers and pump and automatic rifles but the thing in common that distinguishes them is the blue color.
Ps. Although today there are all colors but as an official choice the training weapon has the color blue.
- All products are detailed inert replicas of real weapons designed for civil, police and military training,
- The dimensions of the simulacra make it possible to use the holsters used with real weapons,
- These “weapons” are usually made of hard rubber to withstand impact and in some models with steel reinforcement,
- Having no inflections and keeping the details, the management and balance of the weapon is “similar” to reality,
- Being rigid, they can also be used to simulate weapon disarms and simulations and control from the attempted theft,
- Some models also have removable magazines to simulate the discharge of the weapon.
A change I make to my blue gun is to insert a laser pointer in the barrel to always have a clear idea of the direction of the barrel in the various phases.
Every gun you use should be manufactured in “Blue Law Enforcement” – the most recognized safety color in the world.
This name therefore indicates the simulacra of solid polyurethane plastic arms that initially, by convention, were completely and only blue.
Today, as I told you, it is possible to find on the market simulacra of weapons, both short and long, of yellow, red or green color, for example I have orange ones but in any case bright colors that allow to immediately distinguish inert weapons from real ones .
Repetitive and less dynamic movements carried out in front of a counter of a static or sports shooting training, avoid the occurrence of accidents at most compared to dynamic simulations with weapon extractions, loader change, movement and fire from different positions.
Operative / defensive shooting, on the other hand, requires the operator to perform complex movements and manipulation of the weapon, including emergency, often in motion.
The task of the instructor becomes more complicated and delicate when the position of fire is not static but takes place in motion and carrying out the movements with the contested weapon generates various safety problems.
The most common errors are:
- point your weapon at you while you are extracting or sheathing the weapon,
- point your weapon at you while you are walking,
- point your weapon at you while you kneel or make a charger change
- point the weapon at another operator’s back.
To be sure that no accidents happen during these particular training sessions, the Blue Gun will be used, at least until the correct and safe movements are internalized.
The use of blue guns allows to develop safety and speed in handling the weapon by constructing the correct movement sequences.
Inert weapons are useful in the primary phases of Force on Force training when you have to reset your mind, not being used to pointing the weapon at an opponent in the flesh.
Some sophisticated simulacra are on the market, on which the magazine compartment has been made complete with a release button.
Thanks to these aids that perfectly reproduce firearms in shape and size, you can practice in complete safety to perform:
- extraction of the weapon from the holster,
- pointing and reinserting the weapon in the holster (sheath),
- learning of more complex manipulations,
- handling and combination with certain movements.
- Hold the weapon in symbiosis with the tactical torch and how to carry out the simultaneous passage of the torch and the weapon from one hand to the other, loading, etc.
In these steps using the plastic weapon, it will not be a problem if this or the charger will fall to the ground.
This “sophisticated” simulacrum allows you to train yourself to change the charger, where one of the loaders (the second one, the one you have to insert, is heavier than the other to meet the need to create a correct “muscle memory”.
In this way you can learn the different tactical or emergency one-handed loader change techniques and that in some modes require a fair dexterity and even danger with a real weapon allowing the student to learn to perform complex manipulations avoiding pointing weapon in dangerous directions given the difficulty of handling the weapon as in the case of using the thigh, etc.
Inert weapons you must always treat them as if they are true, you must avoid putting your finger on the trigger or pointing them at people or objects when you don’t want to hit them. You never have to make any difference with real weapons to avoid bad habits.
These simple objects are fundamental tools for training and must be supplied at all places where people are taught to handle a weapon (T.S.N., private or military polygons).
They are fundamental tools not only for the initial learning of the correct handling of the weapon in safety but throughout the training course, even advanced, especially in the operational field for the study of extractions and movements in dynamic with a weapon.
- Simulacrum weapon that looks like the real one (blue gun)
- Real weapon but unloaded
- Real weapon with blows
